Kevin Pietersen, the former England cricket captain and renowned commentator, recently shared a spine-chilling incident from his flight journey to Mumbai, India, for the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Kevin Pietersen shares his nerve-wracking experience

Pietersen was on his way to cover the much-anticipated clash when his flight had to take an unexpected detour due to missile attacks from Iran towards Israel. Sharing his experience on social media on Sunday, Pietersen described the alarming incident. He shared an astonishing experience, revealing that their plane had to return to add more fuel due to rerouting to avoid missiles from Iran—an unprecedented occurrence for him.

Despite the madness of the situation, he shifted focus to his current location, expressing excitement about being in Mumbai and looking forward to visiting Wankhede Stadium, which he considers one of his favourite cricket grounds.

“Well, that’s a first. Our plane last night had to go back and add another big load of fuel cos we had to reroute to avoid the missiles from Iran. MADNESS!!!! Anyway, in Mumbai and at Wankhede later. One of my favourite cricket grounds,” the post reads.

The geopolitical tensions escalated as Iran launched missiles at Israel. The attack was reportedly in retaliation to an Israeli strike on an Iranian diplomatic compound in Damascus, Syria. Amid these tensions, the Indian embassy in Israel issued advisories to Indian citizens, urging them to remain calm and follow safety protocols issued by local authorities.

Earlier this month, Pietersen had been commentating for IPL 2024 but returned to England after some days. Despite the unsettling flight experience, he is expected to resume his commentary duties for the MI and  CSK match at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
