Mohun Bagan Super Giant, one of the most celebrated teams in Indian football, scripted a remarkable comeback in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 season. They defeated Odisha FC in the second leg of the semi-final fixture, securing their place in the final.
The match took place at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. Mohun Bagan, having lost the first leg of the semi-final 1-2 at Bhubaneswar, entered the second leg with a disadvantage. However, they turned the tables with a dominant performance, winning the match 2-0. This victory led to a 3-2 aggregate win, propelling them into the final.
Cummings and Samd seal the deal for Mohun Bagan
Jason Cummings opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. Dimitrios Petratos set up the goal with a long-ranged effort that was deflected by Odisha FC’s custodian, Amrinder Singh. Cummings capitalized on this opportunity, scoring with a simple tap-in.
The second goal, which sealed the match, came from Sahal Abdul Samad in the added time of the second half. This goal came just when the match was heading towards extra-time. Manvir Singh ran down the right flank to brilliantly set up the goal in the middle of the box. Sahal, who had made a comeback from injury, produced the magic moment.

Mohun Bagan’s victory also set the stage for a potential historic double. They had already won the League Winners Shield by defeating Mumbai City FC 2-1. If they win the final, they will become the first team in the history of ISL to complete a double.
The final will take place on May 4 at the Salt Lake Stadium. Mohun Bagan will face the winners of the match between Mumbai City and FC Goa.
