Seven years after Steve Smith took the help of the dressing room to review an on-field umpire call, MI is under the scanner, facing similar accusations. During the IPL match between Punjab and Mumbai in Mullanpur on Thursday, Television footage (deleted by the IPL later) of head coach Mark Boucher and batter Tim David gesturing Suryakumar Yadav to review a wide call from the dugout has gone viral.
There were also quite a few contentious calls as third umpire Nitin Menon was under pressure during the contest that went down to the wire, ending in a last-over thriller.
How Tim David involved in an unethical behaviour
Arshdeep Singh bowled a delivery full and way outside off close to the tramline. Suryakumar Yadav, who was batting then on 67 off 47, tried to chase it. The umpire deemed it to be a legal delivery. However, the camera panned towards the Mumbai dugout where head coach Mark Boucher was seen seemingly gesturing wide, with Tim David signalling the T, apparently asking for a referral along with batting coach Kieron Pollard.
Under Article 2.15 (b) of the Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials for IPL 2024, a player on the field of play is forbidden to “seek assistance from any person off the field of play to decide whether to request a referral to the TV Umpire”. After the gestures from the dugout, the Mumbai batters sent the decision upstairs for a review.
Stand-in captain Sam Curran was seen apparently pointing his fingers at Mumbai’s dugout before the umpire referred the decision to the third umpire. The decision was eventually overturned and given a wide, with Suryakumar lofting Arshdeep for a four-over extra cover off the very next ball.
It's so so funny how people in dug out asked for the review after watching the replay even after the timer had passed, and as soon as Tim David realised he is being shown in the camera he does what exactly students in school does when caught cheating

This incident has raised questions about the role of the dugout in decision-making on the field. The video of the Mumbai dugout urging Suryakumar to review the wide has gone viral, leading to discussions about the ethics and rules of the game.
