Wayne Rooney says that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino would be the “right guy” for Manchester United if they fail to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Since Jose Mourinho’s departure from Old Trafford, Pochettino has been strongly linked with succeeding him on a permanent basis. Ex-United player Solskjaer became the caretaker boss in December and is unbeaten in his brief tenure. He is a huge fan favourite, which further increases the chances of him landing the permanent job.
“It’d be nice to see Ole Gunnar continue with this form and get a shot at the job on a permanent basis,” Rooney told news agency CNN. “But if not, if the club goes to choose from somewhere else, then I think Pochettino would be the right guy,” he added.
Pochettino was the undisputed favourite to succeed Mourinho, but the job Solskjaer has done recently has brought him in the equation. The ‘baby-faced assassin’ made 364 appearances for the club, and now he is making an impact from the dugout. United have picked up 22 points in eight league games under the Norwegian, compared to the 26 in 17 under Mourinho.
The hierarchy at Old Trafford will have to make a decision in the summer, and it will interesting to see if the listen to their all-time top-scorer.
