The Spanish Para-Badminton International 2024-II tournament held in Vitoria, Spain, was a stage for an intense showdown between two of India’s finest para-badminton players, Tarun and Sukant Kadam.

Tarun succeeds Sukant at the Spanish Para-Badminton International

Tarun emerged victorious, clinching the gold medal in the SL4 category. The final match was a thrilling encounter, with Tarun defeating Kadam with scores of 21-13, 16-21, and 21-16.

Sukant Kadam, on the other hand, put up a valiant fight. Despite falling short in the final, his journey to the final was commendable. He had earlier defeated the reigning world champion, Suhas Yathiraj, in the semi-finals, showcasing his prowess on the court.

The tournament also saw other Indian para-badminton players shine. In the SL3 category, Kumar Nitesh, Manoj Sarkar, and Jagadesh Dilli secured gold, silver, and bronze respectively. In the SH6 category, Sivarajan Solaimalai earned a bronze medal while Nithya Sre took silver. Deep Ranjan and Manoj Sarkar claimed silver in the men’s doubles SL3 and SL4 categories, while Umesh Vikram and Surya Kant secured bronze in the same events.

The success of Indian para-badminton players at the Spanish Para-Badminton tournament is a reflection of the growing strength of para-sports in India. It highlights the potential of these athletes and the strides India is making in promoting and supporting para-sports.
