India speedster Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of India’s upcoming four-match Test series against mighty Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Thursday.

However, the BCCI has said that Ishant has recovered fully from the injury that he sustained during a league game of the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL). “While he’s building up his workload in order to achieve Test match fitness, Mr. Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” said the board.
On the other hand, the board also said that they will soon give clarity on Rohit Sharma’s inclusion in the upcoming Test series based on his next assessment which will take place on December 11. They also revealed that Rohit didn’t go to Australia with his teammates right after the IPL as he had returned home to see his father who was ill. Meanwhile, the board had earlier said that both Rohit and Ishant wouldn’t take part in the first two Test matches.
However, Ishant Sharma’s exclusion gave the chance to Thangarasu Natarajan as he has been included to India’s ODI squad against Australia as a backup after Navdeep Saini “complained of back spasm”. Meanwhile, India’s tour of Australia has started with the first ODI on Friday in Sydney. The three-match ODI series will be followed by as many T20Is. The first of the four-match Test series will be started on December 17.
India’s ODI squad: Virat Kohli (C), Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul (WK), Sanju Samson (WK), Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Mayank Agarwal, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Navdeep Saini, Shardul Thakur, T Natarajan.
On the other hand, the report suggested that the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is on the negotiation with the 14-day quarantine period which is mandatory for every traveller whoever will be entering Australia amid this crunch time of COVID-19.
“The BCCI president will be speaking to his counterpart at Cricket Australia and a decision will be reached after their meeting. The current quarantine guidelines might make it impossible for the two to reach Australia and be a part of the Test series as, under existing rules, they will need to completely isolate themselves and cannot train in the quarantine period,” the BCCI sources were quoted by ANI.
