While India have been taking on Australia, India captain Virat Kohli on Thursday said that speedsters Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami wouldn’t play all the white ball games to prepare for the four-match Test series on December 17, which will start from next month.
Before that, India will play three One Day Internationals and as many T20 Internationals as well. However, India wouldn’t get the service of Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma.
“It is a no-brainer. They have played the full IPL season and have been bowling [with] great rhythm. It is important to manage their workload and give them break and hence the chance for youngsters comes into play. You want to see how people react in different situations; you are up against different situations.
You come to India [team], you manage workloads… you have to look forward to youngsters to perform, maintain the balance. So it is important for us to manage bowlers’ workload. We have to see where our bowlers stand and managing workload will be crucial factor,” Kohli said at a virtual press conference before the first ODI on Friday.
However, Kohli again added that this could be an opportunity for youngsters when either the pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah or Mohammed Shami or any other senior players will be rested during the series.
“We have discussed those things i.e. giving an opportunity to youngsters. They are eager and waiting to get out and play. Australia is a great place to play. It is a chance for them to learn something new about their own games, grow that confidence and take it to a different level. It is important for them to grow, and it is important for us to give them an opportunity. We want to see how they shape up,” Kohli again shared.
On the other hand, captain Virat Kohli will return to India after playing the limited-overs series and the first Test. His parental leave has been granted by the BCCI as he is going to be a father soon of his first child with his wife Anushka Sharma.
