Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during their IPL game against Rajasthan Royals. This incident occurred during the match at Eden Gardens, in which KKR lost by two wickets.

Shreyas Iyer was fined for breaching IPL’s code of conduct

The fine was imposed as it was KKR’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences. The IPL has strict rules regarding the pace of play to ensure that matches are completed within a reasonable time frame. Teams are required to complete their quota of 20 overs within the stipulated time.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to a minimum over-rate offences, Iyer was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” the IPL said in a release.

Shreyas Iyer, a seasoned cricketer and an integral part of the KKR team, unfortunately, couldn’t maintain the required over-rate during the match against Rajasthan Royals. This resulted in KKR not being able to complete their quota of 20 overs within the stipulated time.

The fine of Rs 12 lakh is a significant amount and serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining the pace of play in the IPL. It is crucial for captains to ensure that their teams adhere to the rules and regulations set by the IPL to avoid such penalties.

This incident adds to the woes of KKR, who suffered their second loss in six games. The defeat, coupled with the fine imposed on their captain, is a setback for the team. However, it is also an opportunity for them to learn and improve their strategies for future matches.
