Heavyweight legend Wladimir Klitschko ends retirement, agrees to a ₹830 Crore deal with DAZN

Former unified heavyweight champion of the world Wladimir Klitschko is reportedly ending his retirement and now has agreed to a ₹830 Crore deal with sports streaming app DAZN.

Klitschko will be back inside the ring after a two-year absence and according to a Ukrainian news portal said he will fight at the Olympic National Sports Complex in Kyiv. According to the website, the opposition will be: “The most significant battles that will be most attractive in terms of demand in the market.”

The 43-year old former heavyweight champion retired from the sport after suffering a technical knockout loss to Anthony Joshua back in 2017 at the Wembley Stadium in front of 90,000 fans in what is regarded as the best heavyweight fight in more than a decade.

With the new DAZN deal there’s now a possibility for a rematch with WBA. IBF and WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. The first fight was the highest selling pay-per-view fight in the history of British boxing as it sold over 1.5 Million PPV buys.

Further possibilities include a fight with Dillian Whyte and former undisputed cruiserweight champion of the world Oleksandr Usyk who has also signed a deal with DAZN and Matchroom Boxing.

DAZN has signed some of the biggest names in world boxing including Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.
