Ashi and Swapnil triumph at Olympic Selection trials while trap shooters stumble at Olympic Qualifiers

In the Olympic Selection Trials (OST) held in New Delhi, shooters Ashi Chouksey and Swapnil Kusale emerged victorious in the women’s and men’s 50M Rifle 3 Positions qualification events respectively.

Ashi Chouksey stuns world record holder at Olympic Selection Trials

Ashi shot a world-class score of 590 in the women’s 3P OST, leaving behind world record holder Sift Kaur Samra, who scored 583. Tokyo Olympian Anjum Moudgil secured the third position with 581 points, while Paris Olympics quota placeholder Shriyanka Sadangi finished fourth with 575 points.

In the men’s 50M Rifle 3 Positions qualification event, Swapnil outperformed his competitors with two exceptional scores of 199 in the first Kneeling and Prone positions, ending with a total of 592. Chain Singh of the army secured the second position with 591 points, while Akhil Sheoran, despite scoring a perfect 200 in prone, came in third with 589. Niraj Kumar and Aishwary Tomar filled the bottom two positions on the table with scores of 579 and 576 respectively.

Indian Trap Shooters Falter at Olympic Qualifiers 

Contrary to the success in the rifle events, India’s trap shooters had a disappointing performance at the Olympic Qualifying Championship in Doha. In the men’s trap, Prithviraj Tondaiman accumulated 119 points to finish 23rd, while Vivaan Kapoor was 56th with 116 points, and Zoravar Singh Sandhu finished 82nd with 114 points.

In the women’s trap event, Manisha Keer was the best-placed Indian at 37th with 111 points, while Neeru was 55th with 107 points, and Shreyasi Singh was 56th with 106 points.
