In a significant development, Jitesh Sharma has been appointed as the captain of the Punjab Kings for their last league match in IPL 2024. The team will face the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on May 19. This decision comes after Sam Curran, who had been leading Punjab in the absence of the injured Shikhar Dhawan, returned to England for international duty.
Jitesh Sharma is the third Captain for Punjab Kings in IPL 2024
Jitesh Sharma, previously named the vice-captain at the start of the season, now steps up to lead the team. Despite a challenging IPL season with the bat, scoring just 155 runs from 13 matches at an average of 14, Jitesh’s leadership will be crucial in this final encounter.
Jitesh had appeared for the captain’s seminar meeting and many assumed that he had been given the role of being the deputy to Dhawan for the 2024 season. However, seeing Curran leading the team against RR left a lot of fans stunned as they wondered what had happened to the PBKS wicketkeeper and his position as the vice-captain of the side. Coach Bangar revealed during the post-match press conference that Jitesh isn’t actually the designated vice-captain of the team.
