Although the novel Coronavirus pandemic, that has now spread all over the world, has dealt a huge blow to the human population. Several countries are under lock down, people are self isolating themselves in home, and also, world sports has suffered a massive disruption due to the virus outbreak. While sportspersons and athletes now have their time off from the field, some are coming forward with a noble cause of supporting the needy in the time of emergency. Such an example is set by India’s superstar sprinter Hima Das, who has decided to donate her one month salary in the fight against Coronavirus.

Yesterday on her official Twitter handle, Hima Das announced that she will pledge the monetary aid to Assam Arogya Nidhi of the Government of Assam.

The Asian Games gold medallist and World Athletics U20 Champion tweeted: “Friends it’s high time to stand together & support people who need us. I am contributing 1 month of my salary to Assam Govt. in Assam Arogya Nidhi Account made to safeguard the health of people in the wake of Covid-19. @narendramodi @sarbanandsonwal @KirenRijiju @himantabiswa”

The virtuous deed of the 20 year old sprinter receive a huge applause from the netizens, who appreciated Hima’s effort to come in support during the time of crisis.

Hailing from the town of Dhima in Assam, Hima is employed as an HR officer for Indian Oil in Guwahati.

On Wednesday, the Govt of Assam announced to provide mid day meals to 40 lakh students under the age of 14, as the country is now observing a 21-day lock down until April 14th.

“We have ensured that the students do not go to sleep hungry and for that, the state government has decided that to provide mid-day meals to students at home,” Kumar Sanjay Krishna, the Additional Chief Secretary to the Govt said.

The Assam Cricket Association has also come forward with an offer to the state govt to convert the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati into a quarantine centre.

Although Assam itself still has no Coronavirus cases reported, there has been 745 positive cases in India as of now, and 20 patients have died.
