Neeraj Goyat’s Dominance from Start to Finish

Goyat, a WBC Asia titleholder and one of India’s premier professional boxers, secured a unanimous decision victory with a score of 60-54. The fight was a six-round, non-title bout at 165 lbs. From the opening bell, Goyat controlled the action, overwhelming Nunes with his explosiveness and tactical prowess.

In the first round, Goyat connected with a counter left hook and effortlessly slipped in punches to impose his dominance. He continued to overwhelm Nunes with a multi-punch combo in the second round, although his aggression briefly caused him to tire. Goyat quickly recovered, pushing Nunes against the ropes and unleashing a flurry of punches to end the round.

Throughout the fight, Goyat landed 171 punches compared to Nunes’s 87. He showcased his resilience and tactical versatility, dodging Nunes’s advances with ease and landing powerful body shots. Despite Nunes landing an uppercut in the fifth round, Goyat retaliated with his own uppercut and maintained control with a barrage of attacking manoeuvres.

Goyat’s victory was a proud moment for Indian boxing fans, as he became the first Indian boxer to make the WBC rankings. His career has been marked by challenges, including a serious car accident in 2019 that temporarily halted his career. However, Goyat made a successful return to the ring and has since re-established himself as a formidable force in boxing.
