The third day of the U20 Asian Athletics Championships 2024 in Dubai was a mixed bag for the Indian contingent. Despite no gold medals, the athletes put up a commendable performance, adding to the country’s medal tally.
Laxita Vinod grabs silver at U20 Asian Athletics Championships
Laxita Vinod Sandilea, the reigning under-20 Asian champion in 1500m, was the star of the day for India. She competed fiercely against Japan’s Nishida Yuri in the women’s 800m event. Laxita clocked a time of 2:07.10s, surpassing her personal record by over a second. Her previous best was 2:08.24s. This remarkable performance earned her a well-deserved silver medal.

The Indian mixed relay team, featuring P. Abiram, Kanista Teena, Navpreet Singh, and Sandramol Sabu, also made their mark. They clocked 3:24.86 minutes in the 4x400m event, securing a silver medal. The team finished behind China, showcasing their potential and promise.
Shreeya Rajesh clinched a bronze medal in the women’s 400m hurdles with a timing of 59.20 seconds. In the men’s hammer throw event, Prateek secured bronze with a throw of 65.97m.
Several other athletes also put up noteworthy performances. The men’s 4x100m relay team placed second in its heats with a timing of 40.43s, advancing to the final. Sabita Toppo and Unnathi Aiyappa Bolland progressed to the women’s 100m hurdles final with performances of 14.10s and 13.72s respectively.
