Deepika Kumari wins despite a shaky start
Deepika faced a shoot-off in her opening round, but she clinched victory. The rub of the green was on her side, even when she wasn’t at her best. In the second round, Deepika dominated her opponent, Quinty Roeffen, winning 6-2. Her precision and focus were evident as she secured crucial points.
The third set was a breeze for Deepika. Despite a modest score of 25 (including a 7), she comfortably won 25-17. Roeffen’s first arrow missed the target board, sealing Deepika’s victory.
Deepika’s journey wasn’t without suspense. In her first match, she was pushed to a tie-breaker but emerged victorious. World No. 14 Deepika held her nerve, shooting a 9, while her opponent faltered with an 8.
While Ankita Bhakat lost in the first round, 18-year-old Bhajan Kaur reached the pre-quarterfinals in the women’s individual category. Unfortunately, Dhiraj Bommadevara exited in the Round of 32 in the men’s individual event.
