Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain showcased her prowess and determination, securing a commanding victory to reach the quarter-finals of the women’s 75kg boxing event at the North Paris Arena. Her remarkable performance places her just one win away from adding another Olympic medal to her collection.
Lovlina Borgohain’s dominance continues
In a resounding victory, Lovlina defeated Norway’s Sunniva Hofstad. Her precision, technique, and unwavering focus were evident as she outclassed her opponent. Lovlina had previously won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Now, she aims to secure her second Olympic medal in Paris.
In the quarter-finals, Lovlina will face China’s Li Qian, a two-time Olympic medalist. Their previous encounter was in the Asian Games women’s 75kg final, where Lovlina faced Li.

While Lovlina shines, other Indian boxers faced tough challenges. Amit Panghal was eliminated in the men’s 51kg category, and Jaismine Lamboria exited the women’s 57kg category.
The Indian boxing campaign at the Games has been mixed so far with three of the six in contention, already out of the competition. Those ousted early include former Asian Games champion Amit Panghal (51kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg) and Jaismine Lamboria (57kg).
Remaining in the fray apart from Borgohain are the debutant duo of world champion Nikhat Zareen (women’s 50kg) and Nishant Dev (men’s 71kg).
