Yuzvendra Chahal, the veteran leg-spinner, has scripted history by becoming the first bowler to complete 200 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL). This remarkable achievement was accomplished during Match 38 of IPL 2024 against Mumbai Indians.
Yuzvendra Chahal’s journey to 200 IPL Wickets
Born in Jind, Haryana, Chahal’s journey from a chess enthusiast to a cricketing legend has been inspiring. His cricketing career took off when he was signed up by Mumbai Indians in 2011. However, it was with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) that his IPL career truly flourished.
Chahal played 113 matches for RCB from 2014 to 2021, picking up 139 wickets at an average of 22.03 and an impressive economy rate of 7.58. He remains the highest wicket-taker for RCB in the IPL.
In 2022, Chahal was picked by Rajasthan Royals for INR 6.5 crore. Since then, he has been a key player for the Royals, bagging 27 wickets during their run to the IPL final that year. His performance included a five-for against Kolkata Knight Riders, which also featured a hat-trick.
Chahal’s 200th wicket came in the 8th over of the first innings against Mumbai Indians, where he dismissed Mohammad Nabi. This feat was achieved in his 153rd IPL appearance.

He is currently third in the list of leading wicket-takers for RR in T20 matches after the legendary Shane Warne (67) and fast bowler Siddharth Trivedi (65). In the ongoing IPL edition, Chahal is amongst the leading wicket-takers, along with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel. Last year, Chahal went past former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo to become the leading wicket-taker in the IPL.
Chahal’s journey to 200 wickets has seen him surpass Dwayne Bravo, who held the record for most IPL wickets until last season. With this achievement, Chahal has firmly etched his name into the annals of IPL history.
