Riyan Parag was one of the unluckiest heroes on Thursday night in the match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, as his team defeated KKR, keeping RR’s hope of making it to the playoffs alive. While big names like Steve Smith, Ben Stokes, and Sanju Samson failed, 17-year old Riyan Parag took the responsibility of winning onto himself, in the chase to take RR to the brink. However, the youngster’s dismissal in 19th over of the innings was one of the most unlucky dismissals in the IPL history. The RR skipper, Steve Smith who was in the dug-out was absolutely shocked and watched in horror as Riyan Parag got out hit-wicket off Andre Russell’s bowling.

Riyan Parag attempted a hook shot to a bouncer from Russell and ended up clipping the bails off in the follow-through, even as the umpire signaled a four and a no-ball. The umpire, though soon realized what had happened and referred it to the third umpire.

Replays showed that Parag’s bat had clearly disturbed the stumps, ending his wonderful knock of 47 off 31 balls.

Here is a clip of the dismissal and the skipper’s reaction:

The 17-year-old from Assam played without any fear in only his 14th T20 match, hitting five fours and a couple of maximums.

Royals needed 9 runs to win it in the final over. It was Jofra Archer, who had already added 44 runs along with Riyan Parag, smacked a boundary and a six off the first 2 balls to bring down the curtains on the encounter, meaning that KKR had lost their sixth match on the trot.

With this win, RR moved up one place to seventh with eight points from 11 matches, the same as KKR, who remain on the sixth spot, from the same number of matches.
