Sanjeev’s dominance at Federation Cup
Sanjeev, who trains under Sonipat-based coach Kuldeep Singh, displayed a series of authoritative performances throughout the tournament. His impressive performance in every bout led him to outclass Manish in the final, securing his maiden gold medal at the elite level.
Sanjeev’s journey to the gold medal was not without its challenges. He had previously bagged a silver and a bronze in National championships at Jaipur and Pune respectively. However, his performance in the Federation Cup marked a significant milestone in his wrestling career.
In the final match against Manish, Sanjeev went 1-0 up due to Manish’s passivity. He then utilized his advantageous position in par terre to flip his rival for a 3-0 lead. Another take-down made it 5-0, but Manish injured his left ankle in the process and conceded the bout.
Sanjeev’s victory in the 55kg Greco-Roman event was a highlight of the Federation Cup. His gold medal added to the tally of medals secured by Delhi’s wrestlers, contributing to a successful outing for the team.
The Federation Cup saw a total of 40 Greco-Roman wrestlers securing medals in various weight categories. Other notable performances included Pravin Patil and Govind from Maharashtra securing gold medals in the 63kg and 67kg categories respectively.
