Neeraj Chopra, India’s star javelin thrower, recently expressed his desire to compete against top international athletes on home soil. Chopra’s season-best throw of 89.45 meters earned him the silver medal at the Paris Olympics. His long-time rival, Arshad Nadeem from Pakistan, set a jaw-dropping Olympic record with a massive throw of 92.97 meters.

Neeraj Chopra is ambitious to compete in India

Despite narrowly missing out on defending his title, Neeraj remains ambitious. He dreams of competing alongside other global javelin stars in India.

“It’s a dream of mine to compete with other international stars in India. Hopefully, there will be an international competition soon in India and I can do that,” Chopra said during an interactive session with fans organised by the Olympics.com, as quoted by PTI.

Neeraj acknowledges the rising competition in men’s javelin. As he enters a new season, he aims to improve specific areas, especially the correct angle of throwing, to generate more power. Breaching the elusive 90-meter mark remains a major goal for him.

“I am entering a new season now. So, I don’t have that much time to change training methods or techniques. But I hope to improve upon a couple of areas, especially the line of the javelin. You know, the correct angle of throwing so that I get more power in my throw. I will certainly work on it,” he said.

Neeraj’s success has ignited interest in the javelin throw among his countrymen. He considers this a significant achievement and hopes to see more world-class events hosted in India.
