Despite starting the tournament with a loss in the first round, Humpy quickly found her rhythm, securing four consecutive wins on the second day. Her consistent performance throughout the tournament allowed her to accumulate 8.5 points from 11 rounds, finishing half a point ahead of her nearest competitors. This win follows her first World Rapid Chess Championship title in 2019, making her the second female player, after China’s Ju Wenjun, to win the title more than once.

Reflecting on her achievement, Humpy expressed her joy and gratitude, highlighting the support of her family and the Indian chess community. “Winning this title again is a dream come true. It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication I’ve put into the game over the years,” she said. “I’m deeply grateful to my family and supporters for standing by me through every challenge.”

Humpy’s victory is particularly significant for Indian chess, coming in the same year that D Gukesh won the classical format World Championship. Her success continues to inspire young players in India, showcasing the potential for excellence in the sport. Humpy’s journey in chess has been marked by numerous accolades, including being the youngest woman ever to achieve the title of Grandmaster at the age of 15 in 2002.

The World Rapid Chess Championship, known for its fast-paced and high-pressure games, tests players’ speed and accuracy, requiring quick decision-making and deep strategic thinking. Humpy’s ability to excel in such an environment underscores her exceptional talent and mental fortitude.
