Mumbai Indians’ batter Tim David and batting coach Kieron Pollard have been fined 20% of their respective match fees for breaching the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct. The incident occurred during their match against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on April 18, 2024.
Fine on Tim David and Kieron Pollard
While the reasons behind the action have not been mentioned, it might be possible that David has been fined for assisting the MI batters with a DRS decision from the dugout – something that is not allowed.
Footage from the match went viral on social media, showing Tim David signalling the batters to take a review. This action is considered a breach of conduct as it is not allowed for players in the dugout to assist the batters with Decision Review System (DRS) decisions. Despite protests from the fielding captain, Sam Curran, the on-field umpires proceeded with the review.
Kieron Pollard was also involved in a separate incident where he entered the field of play, attempting to call for a timeout. The Mumbai Indians’ dugout had signalled for a timeout, but the batters, Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma, either did not see the request or chose to ignore it. Pollard, along with other Mumbai Indians players and staff, were asked to leave the playing area by the umpires.
So Kieron Pollard and Tim David have been fined 20% of their IPL fees for breaching the code of conduct in the game against PBKS.
