Delhi Capitals ended SRH’s run in the tournament after a nerve-wracking final over victory which was marred with controversy.

Heading into this knockout fixture in Vizag, both teams named a solitary change each. Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Shreyas Iyer and men were put under pressure by Martin Guptill.

The Kiwi batsman played an explosive knock. But after Guptill’s dismissal, the fragile order failed to continue with the momentum courtesy of some tight spin bowling from Axar Patel and Amit Mishra. Vijay Shankar and Mohammad Nabi played crucial cameos to lift the side to a total of 162-8.

Prithvi Shaw got back into the runs with a sublime half-century, the perfect start faded away after the powerplay and soon the Capitals started losing wickets in quick succession.

Rishabh Pant instilled some life into the chase with a knock of 49 off just 21 balls. However, Pant’s dismissal left DC in a precarious position. With 5 required off the last over, Amit Mishra was run-out under bizarre circumstances. The veteran was held responsible for obstructing the stumps at the bowler’s end.

Keemo Paul kept his cool and finished the game off for the side with a ball to spare. Delhi Capitals will now face Chennai Super Kings for a place in the final against Mumbai Indians this Sunday.

Brief Scorecard:

SRH 162-8 (20 overs) (M.Guptill 36; K.Paul 3-32)

DC 165-8 (19.5 overs) (R.Pant 49; R.Khan 2-16)
