As the human population is battling against the novel Coronavirus pandemic, several iconic sportspersons around the world have come forward with monetary aid in the fight to curb the virus outbreak. In India, the past few weeks have seen many iconic cricketers pledging stupendous amounts, to assist the medical and health sectors, as well as providing for the poor and needy amidst the nationwide lock down. The latest superstar from the country’s sports fraternity to join is none other than Team India’s superstar opener Rohit Sharma, who has just made a donation of Rs 80 Lakh in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.

Rohit Sharma’s total donation has been made in three different areas. He has pledged Rs 45 Lakhs to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES) fund, Rs 25 Lakh to the Maharashtra Chief Ministers Relief Fund, (CMRF).
In addition to the above, Sharma has also donated Rs 5 lakh also to Zomato’s ‘Feeding India’, a mission taken by the food food delivery start up wich is aiding the poor families with food amidst the lock down, and Rs 5 lakh more to aid the welfare of stray dogs.

Sharma now joins the likes of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina Ajinkya Rahane amongst the cricketers who have pedlged handsome amounts to the PM’s relief fund.
The 32 year old has always been vocal about taking the virus outbreak seriously. A couple of weeks back, Sharma tweeted a video where he advised his fans and fellow citizens some vital guidelines to follow and maintain in an effort to stay safe and curb the virus contamination in the country.

Till now, more than 1400 positive Coronavirus cases have been registered in India, along with 32 deaths.
