Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha, in an exclusive interaction with India Today, expressed her hopes for the Indian contingent at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Usha’s optimism centres around surpassing India’s medal tally from the previous Tokyo Games. However, she emphasizes that she won’t focus on specific numbers to avoid putting undue pressure on our athletes.

PT Usha’s Confidence in Indian Athletes

“I hope that they will do better than Tokyo, but I don’t want to count the numbers because I don’t want to put any pressure on our athletes. Let them do their best,” Usha stated.

“From my time and now there is no comparison. See somewhere other, I managed my coach to be with me. Otherwise, for me, there is no exposure at all. See if I could get 3-4 races outside of Europe, I could have won the medal. I missed the medal only because of a lack of experience and exposure. So now see last 10 years players are getting a lot of facilities,” Usha added

Usha’s confidence in India’s performance reflects the nation’s growing prominence on the global sporting stage. With star athletes like weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who clinched a silver medal in Tokyo, and other talented competitors, India aims to achieve a double-digit medal tally in Paris. As the games unfold, the hopes of millions rest on these athletes, and their dedication and resilience will determine India’s success in the City of Lights.
