Hyderabad FC officially announced the sacking of head coach Thangboi Singto following a string of disappointing performances in the ongoing Indian Super League (ISL). The club, currently languishing at the bottom of the points table with just two wins and a draw from 11 matches, decided that a change in leadership was necessary to rejuvenate the team’s fortunes.
Hyderabad FC’s stern decision in mid-season
Singto, who has been associated with Hyderabad FC since 2020, took over as head coach in July 2023 after serving as the assistant coach and technical director for the club’s youth development. His tenure included notable achievements such as guiding the team to become the first ISL side to win a match with an all-Indian lineup last season. However, this season’s performances have fallen short of expectations, prompting the club to take decisive action.
In an official statement, Hyderabad FC expressed gratitude for Singto’s dedication and contributions to the team over the years. The club acknowledged his professionalism and the positive impact he had on the players and the club’s development but emphasized the need for immediate improvements in performance.
The decision to part ways with Singto comes at a critical juncture, as the team struggles to find form and consistency in a highly competitive league. Assistant coach Shameel Chembakath has been appointed as the interim head coach and will lead the team in the upcoming matches while the club searches for a permanent replacement.
This move mirrors a similar situation with Kerala Blasters, who recently sacked their head coach Mikael Stahre due to poor results. The pressure is mounting on Hyderabad FC to turn things around, and the upcoming match against NorthEast United FC will be a crucial test for the team under new leadership.
