India A

In a thrilling first day of the first unofficial Test between Australia A and India A in Mackay, Australia, Brendan Doggett delivered a stunning performance, taking six wickets to bowl out India A for a mere 107 runs. This remarkable achievement has set the stage for an exciting match ahead.

Australia A won the toss and chose to bowl first on a pitch that offered assistance to seam and swing. The decision paid off as they quickly made inroads into the Indian batting lineup. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the India A captain, was dismissed on the first ball of the match, caught brilliantly by wicketkeeper Josh Philippe down the leg side.

Doggett’s Dominance

Doggett, who bowled 11 overs including six maidens, gave away just 15 runs while claiming six wickets. His ability to constantly change lengths and get the ball to move made life difficult for the Indian batsmen. Key wickets included Ishan Kishan, Devdutt Padikkal, and Prasidh Krishna, with Doggett finishing with impressive figures of 6 for 15.

India A’s Struggles

India A’s top order struggled to cope with the conditions and the disciplined bowling attack. Abhimanyu Easwaran and Nitish Kumar Reddy failed to make an impact, with Easwaran scoring just seven runs and Reddy dismissed for a duck. Sai Sudharsan and Navdeep Saini provided some resistance, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a collapse.

Australia A’s Response

Australia A ended the day at 99 for 4, trailing India A by just eight runs. Nathan McSweeney played a solid knock, remaining unbeaten on 29, and will be looking to build on this foundation on the second day.
