As Team India are on the verge of travelling to Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a revised squad. While the India captain Virat Kohli will come back home after the opening Day-Night Test in Adelaide as the board has granted him the expectant father paternity leave, Ajinkya Rahane, the vice-captain, is likely to lead the team in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane Tests as well.

On the other hand, India’s swashbuckling opener, as well as the vice-captain of the limited-overs Rohit Sharma, who wasn’t included earlier as he sustained an injury, has now been included in the Test squad. However, he has not been added in the white-ball series in order to give him enough time to recover from a hamstring injury which picked up during a group league game in the ongoing IPL 2020.
However, in a recent media release, BCCI has revealed that their medical team had monitored Rohit in the UAE after he picked up the injury on October 18 which also forced him to miss four games as well.
Along with him, speedster Ishant Sharma too hasn’t been picked in the Test squad as he also sustained an injury and his abdominal muscle tear had ruled him out of IPL 2020 as well. However, he has been in the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for the rehab and the release informed that he will be added to the Test squad after he becomes match fit.
Meanwhile, the spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who had earned his maiden T20I call-up after a successful IPL campaign for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has been ruled out with a shoulder injury. And, left-arm seamer T Natarajan has replaced him. Notably, he was among the reserve group of net bowlers earlier. He too has a great campaign with the Sunrisers Hyderabad, picking up 16 wickets from as many games at an economy of 8.02.
Notably, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, who was named in the reserve bowlers, will not tour to Australia as he has been working with BCCI’s medical team on his workload management as well. The talented youngster of India’s U-19 World Cup-winning team of 2018 has been suffering from a back injury earlier and only returned in IPL and played 10 matches for KKR.
However, Test wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, who has also not been picked up as he too sustained a hamstring injury during an IPL game against Mumbai Indians, will be added if he gets fit later. Notably, Sanju Samson has been added as a back-up wicketkeeper in the ODI squad as well.
India’s tour of Australia will begin with three ODIs from November 27. This will be followed by three T20Is and four Tests as well.
