Ever since the squad for the Indian Cricket Team has been announced, it has sparked a lot of speculations for the vacant number 4 spot in the batting order. After a lot of trial and error, it was believed that Ambati Rayudu is the one to fill in that spot. However, the selectors went ahead with Vijay Shankar for the position ultimately.

Opinions are divided across the cricket fraternity as to who should be given the mighty responsibility of stabilizing the Indian middle order. Looking at the squad, there surely are numerous players that come into contention for the designated spot. There is Vijay Shankar on whom the selectors have shown a lot of faith on, then there is the experienced Dinesh Karthik who also is suited for the role and KL Rahul too exhibited tremendous form in the IPL.

However, apart from these popular opinions, Australia’s Andy Bichel feels it should be MS Dhoni who should be promoted to the number 4 spot. The pacer feels that Dhoni is a floater and can bat anywhere from 1 to 6. However, considering this could be Dhoni’s last outing in a World Cup, Bichel feels Dhoni should have a go and the number 4 spot, which will give him some much needed time in the middle to settle and then get going based on the situations.

India has a fairly balanced side according to Bichel, however, he feels it would be crucial to pick players based on the conditions and the pitch, considering it is a long tournament and you would not want one of your marquee players to get injured in the middle of it.
