Indian hockey defender Amit Rohidas will be absent from the crucial Paris 2024 Olympics men’s hockey semi-final clash against Germany.  During the quarter-finals against Great Britain on August 4, Rohidas received a red card for a breach of the FIH Code of Conduct.

Amit Rohidas’ ban

In a midfield duel with British forward Will Calnan, Rohidas swung his hockey stick across Calnan’s face. Although the on-field referee initially didn’t deem it a serious offence, video referral led to the decision being changed to a red card.

As a consequence of the red card, Rohidas faces a one-match ban. The suspension directly impacts match No. 35, which is India’s semi-final encounter against Germany. India will play with a squad of 15 players only, excluding Rohidas.

Despite Rohidas’ absence, India secured a thrilling victory against Great Britain in the quarter-finals. Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored a crucial goal, and goalkeeper PR Sreejesh starred in the shootout.

India advanced to the semi-finals, aiming to replicate their bronze medal performance from Tokyo 2020. While Rohidas will be sorely missed, the Indian team remains determined to give their best in the quest for Olympic glory.
