“After extensive consultations with government and security agencies, and with all the key stakeholders,” the board acknowledged in a statement that they had made the decision to move forward with the event.

The board has decided to focus on Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad in addition to Bengaluru, despite reports that the remaining tournament matches could be played in the three southern cities of Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. The remaining home games for teams like the Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Punjab Kings will not be played in their assigned locations. On May 20, Delhi will host CSK’s final home game against RR, and on May 25, Delhi will host SRH’s final home game against KKR. Neither of these teams has a chance to qualify for the playoffs.
It’s also important to remember that the May 8 game between the Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings will be rescheduled for May 24 in Jaipur. Mullanpur is not one of the locations listed for the resumption, hence PBKS will play their other two games in Jaipur in addition to that match. On May 21, the Mumbai Indians, who are vying for a postseason berth, will play their final home game against the Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede.
The board decided to halt the competition for a week after the Dharamsala match was canceled because of border tensions between India and Pakistan. Given their upcoming international obligations, it is unclear how many of the foreign players who have already left the country would return for the event. With the World Test Championship Final set to start on June 11, just one week after the IPL final concludes, attention will be on Australia’s and South Africa’s Test stars in particular.
