Team India has selected its world cup squad which will tour England and Wales and the ICC tournament will start from 30th May with India’s opening match to be against South Africa on June 5.

The team is extremely confident going into this world cup although Indian coach Ravi Shastri had earlier said that he is confident that India will lift the world cup once again.

But Ravi Shastri’s contract expires right after the world cup is over and there have been numerous rumours about Ricky Ponting’s name being considered to be India’s new coach.

Ponting is currently coaching the Delhi Capitals and under his guidance, the Delhi based franchise has made it to the IPL play-offs only for the third time in IPL history.

Former Indian cricketer was asked in an interview by Cricbuzz about the possibility of the former Australian captain Ricky Ponting becoming the new coach of the Indian team.

That you have to ask him if he is ready to stay away from home for 8-9 months of a year. But yes, if you talk about credentials, there is no doubt he can be a great candidate,” Ganguly said.

Ganguly then talked about his professional and personal relationship with the Ponting, to which Ganguly said that it has grown exponentially over the years.

Oh, we are great friends. There was a point in time when we were adversaries on the pitch, but over the years our friendship has grown. He has done some great work with the boys and it’s showing,” Ganguly who is the advisor for the Delhi capital said.
