In a thrilling display of skill and composure, Ramita Jindal made history by qualifying for the Women’s Individual 10m Air Rifle Final at the Paris Olympics 2024. Her journey to the final was marked by determination, precision, and a steady hand.

Ramita Jindal’s performance

Ramita, making her Olympic debut, shot a 631.5 in the qualification round, finishing fifth. Her steady shooting was essential in a highly competitive field of women’s 10m air rifle shooters. She remained focused, notching consistent scores throughout the series.

As the final approached, Ramita needed to be calm for the critical shots. She took her time, ensuring each shot counted. Her performance was reminiscent of India’s current rifle coach, Suma Shirur, who had reached the Olympic final in Athens in 2004.

Ramita’s journey wasn’t without challenges. In the Olympic Selection Trials, she faced intense competition among the country’s top five shooters. Despite back-to-back failures, she persevered. Her calm under extreme pressure earned her a spot in Paris.

While Ramita secured her place, her compatriot Elavenil Valarivan narrowly missed out on a finals spot. Shooting is a game of fine margins, and one bad shot took Elavenil out of contention.

Ramita’s achievement echoes Suma Shirur’s legacy. Her performance inspires future generations of Indian female shooters, proving that dedication and resilience can lead to Olympic success.
