Zinedine Zidane is once again the center of attention at the Spanish capital, as the Frenchman is speculated to have been deciding another resignation from Real Madrid, after the failed pursuit of Manchester United’s Paul Pogba.
Zidane decided to quit his job after Madrid won the 2018 UEFA Champions League final, but returned to Santiago Bernabéu again this year, following the consecutive sacking of Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari.
However, as Spanish journalist Diego Torres reports, the 47 year old is deciding on a second step down, reason being Zidane’s failure to land his fellow countryman from Old Trafford, and also not securing an exit for his not so favourite Galactico, Gareth Bale.
In a statement in The Independent, Torres said: “Not signing Pogba puts Zidane on the brink of resigning. Zidane personally promised Pogba he would bring him to Madrid, and now he is left looking bad. This has only increased the lack of confidence between Zidane and Florentino [Perez].”
“For Zidane, his project and Pogba are almost the same thing. Nothing that he was promised has really come to pass.” he added.
The La Liga giants have already secured big names this year, such as Luka Jović, Éder Militão, Rodrygo and Ferland Mendy, and of course, the most talked about transfer of this window, Eden Hazard. Is the inability to secure the 26 year old World Cup winner from the RedDevils enough reason for Zidane to call it quits? Time will tell.
