Former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan, renowned for his exceptional bowling skills and cricketing acumen, recently shared his insights on the current crop of fast bowlers. In a candid discussion, Zaheer named his ‘Fab Four’ of fast bowlers, highlighting the remarkable talents of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.

Zaheer Khan heaps praises on Bumrah and Shami

Jasprit Bumrah, with his unique bowling action and lethal pace, has become a cornerstone of India’s bowling attack. Zaheer Khan praised Bumrah for his consistency and ability to deliver under pressure. Bumrah’s unorthodox style, combined with his pinpoint accuracy, makes him a formidable opponent for any batsman. His performances in Test cricket, particularly in overseas conditions, have been instrumental in India’s success.

Mohammed Shami, known for his seam and swing bowling, has been another vital cog in India’s pace battery. Zaheer highlighted Shami’s ability to extract movement from any surface, making him a constant threat. Shami’s knack for breaking partnerships and his relentless aggression have earned him a place in Zaheer’s elite list. His contributions in both Test and limited-overs formats have been crucial for India.

The Global Contenders

Zaheer’s ‘Fab Four’ isn’t limited to Indian bowlers. He also included South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada and Australia’s Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood. Rabada, with his raw pace and ability to generate bounce, has been a standout performer for South Africa. Cummins and Hazlewood, known for their disciplined line and length, have been pillars of Australia’s bowling attack.

“India has been performing exceptionally well and has been part of two World Test Championship finals. India has done well consistently in all conditions. So, I would surely pick Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami in my Fab Four. Apart from them, it would be Kagiso Rabada and Josh Hazlewood. Pat Cummins is also one of the contenders. These are the four or five bowlers who have made an impact in Test cricket consistently,” Zaheer Khan told Cricbuzz.

Kagiso Rabada: The South African Sensation

Kagiso Rabada’s rise in international cricket has been nothing short of spectacular. His ability to bowl at high speeds and his aggressive approach have made him a key player for South Africa. Zaheer emphasized Rabada’s consistency and his knack for taking crucial wickets, which have made him one of the most feared bowlers in the world.

Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood: The Australian Duo

Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood have been instrumental in Australia’s success in recent years. Cummins, with his pace and ability to bowl long spells, has been a match-winner on numerous occasions. Hazlewood, often compared to the legendary Glenn McGrath, is known for his impeccable line and length. Zaheer acknowledged their contributions and included them in his ‘Fab Four’ for their consistent performances.
