Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has recently urged current stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to participate in the Ranji Trophy to rediscover their form in red-ball cricket. Yuvraj’s comments come after both players struggled during the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Rohit managed only 31 runs in five innings, while Kohli accumulated 190 runs in nine innings, including a century in the Perth Test.
Yuvraj Singh’s take on playing Ranji Trophy
Yuvraj emphasized the importance of playing domestic cricket, stating, “It is very important to play domestic cricket. Everyone should play domestic cricket if they are not injured and if they have the time.” He believes that participating in domestic matches can help players regain their confidence and form.
Despite their struggles, neither Rohit nor Kohli has confirmed their participation in the Ranji Trophy. Rohit has linked up with the Mumbai team for training, while Kohli remains unconfirmed by the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). Yuvraj, who himself returned to domestic cricket during the 2014-15 season to regain his form, hopes that Rohit and Kohli will follow suit.
Yuvraj’s call comes as India has lost to New Zealand and Australia and failed to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) for the first time. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is also contemplating disciplinary measures following India’s disappointing tour of Australia.

Meanwhile, the BCCI is contemplating disciplinary measures following India’s disappointing tour of Australia. Proposed actions include restricting the presence of spouses and families on tours and barring coaches’ and players’ managerial staff from the team bus. For tours lasting 45 days or more, family visits may be capped at two weeks. For shorter tours, the limit could be reduced to one week
