All know the story of India’s exit from the World Cup 2019, after suffering defeat at the hands of New Zealand; now Yuvraj Singh, India team’s all-rounder, sheds some light into the team’s loss. Yuvraj blames the Indian team management for the team’s failure. He expressed his disappointment with the higher authorities who were in charge of selecting players for the World Cup team. He particularly mentions Ambati Rayuda, who was not selected to play in the World Cup.

The cricketer was in New Delhi for the Agenda AajTak when he spoke at length about India’s defeat at the 2019 World Cup. The Indian team selectors failed to pick up a talented cricketer, Ambati Rayuda, to play in the middle order which probably could have made India win or at least progress to the finals to face off England. Yuvraj believes that it is in the middle order where all the problem lied in the World Cup team formation. He clearly does not agree with the Indian team selectors’ thought process as he believes it to be causing more harm to the team.

While the India team’s top order was heavy, the middle order was lacking experience and needed some talented and experienced players. Adding Rayuda could have surely helped in balancing out the middle and the top order, but the India team management made a huge mistake and dropped Rayuda after he put up a disappointing performance against Australia in his last match before the World Cup was to begin. Yuvraj thinks Rayuda could have been a more competent player than Rishabh Pant and Vijay Shankar who were placed in the middle order despite being inexperienced and their inexperience cost the team the World Cup trophy.

“When we were going to play the 2003 World Cup, our top-order was highly experienced and the middle order was decently experienced. In this World Cup, we dropped Ambati Rayudu and nothing against Vijay Shankar… he played 5 ODIs before the World Cup and then we brought in Rishabh Pant. He had played a handful of games in the lead up to the World Cup. How do you expect with such less experience to perform?” he asked.
