In a thrilling finale at the Chengdu Open 2024, the Indo-French pair of Yuki Bhambri and Albano Olivetti narrowly missed out on clinching their third title of the year. The duo faced the top-seeded French pair, Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul, in a match that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

Bhambri and Olivetti, seeded third in the tournament, showcased exceptional skill and teamwork throughout their journey to the final. They began their campaign with a convincing straight-sets victory over Adam Walton and Toshihide Matsui in the Round of 16. Their momentum continued in the quarterfinals, where they staged a remarkable comeback to defeat the Ecuadorian pair of Gonzalo Escobar and Diego Hidalgo 5-7, 6-3, 12-10.

In the semifinals, Bhambri and Olivetti faced the formidable duo of Rafael Matos from Brazil and Ivan Dodig from Croatia. The Indo-French pair displayed clinical precision, winning the match 6-3, 7-6 (11-9) to secure their spot in the final.

The Final Showdown

The final, held on September 24, 2024, at the Sichuan International Tennis Centre, was a testament to the high level of competition in the tournament. Bhambri and Olivetti started strong, but Doumbia and Reboul proved to be resilient opponents. The first set saw the French pair taking the lead with a 6-4 win. However, Bhambri and Olivetti fought back in the second set, winning 6-4 to push the match into a decisive tie-break.

In the match tie-break, Doumbia and Reboul managed to edge out Bhambri and Olivetti with a 10-4 victory, securing the championship title. The final scoreline read 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 in favour of the French pair.

Season Achievements

The Chengdu Open final marked the third time Bhambri and Olivetti reached a final this year. Earlier in the season, they triumphed at the Swiss Open Gstaad in July and the BMW Open in Munich in April, both on clay courts. Their consistent performances have established them as a formidable pair on the ATP Tour.
