Young India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is on the verge of breaking a major record held by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. Jaiswal, who is only 22 years old, has been in sensational form throughout 2024, amassing 1,280 runs from 12 Test matches at an impressive average of 58.18. He needs just 282 more runs to surpass Tendulkar’s record of 1,562 runs in a calendar year, set in 2010.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s consistency

Jaiswal’s journey this year has been nothing short of extraordinary. He started the year with a duck against South Africa but quickly turned things around with record-breaking performances. He became only the seventh player in history to score consecutive double centuries in Test cricket, achieving this feat against England with scores of 209 and 214. His recent 161-run knock in the first Test against Australia in Perth further solidified his place as a key player for India.

Earlier this year, he became just the seventh player in the history of the game to score consecutive double hundreds in Test cricket. He achieved the feat against England with successive double centuries (209 and 214) in Visakhapatnam and Rajkot. He was also the third Indian to achieve the feat after Vinod Kambli (1993) and Virat Kohli (2017).

As India gears up for the remaining Tests in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, all eyes are on Jaiswal to see if he can break Tendulkar’s long-standing record. With three more matches to play, Jaiswal has a golden opportunity to etch his name in cricket history.
