Yashasvi Jaiswal, the young cricket sensation, has made a roaring comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with a stunning century against Mumbai Indians (MI). This remarkable feat has not only reaffirmed his status as a rising star in T20 cricket but also showcased the spirit of sportsmanship and mentorship in the cricketing world.

Jaiswal’s journey in this IPL season has been a rollercoaster ride. Despite his stellar performance last season, where he scored 625 runs at a strike rate of 163.61 and an average of 48.08, he faced challenges this year, with scores of 24, 5, 10, 0, 24, 39, and 19. However, he silenced all doubts with a brilliant display of T20 cricket against MI.

In the match against MI, Jaiswal took a measured approach, hitting the ball through the ground rather than giving it an aerial route. He reached his century in just 59 balls, sealing Rajasthan Royals’ victory with a boundary in the penultimate over. His innings were filled with impressive stroke play, hitting nine fours and seven sixes.

This was Jaiswal’s second IPL century, and both centuries have come against MI, making him only the sixth player in IPL history to achieve this feat against a single team. This elite group includes KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, David Warner, and Jos Buttler.

Yashasvi Jaiswal thanks Rohit bhaiya and Virat bhaiya

After the game, Jaiswal credited Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for their guidance during his tough period. He also thanked Rajasthan Royals’ coach-captain duo of Kumar Sangakkara and Sanju Samson for their inputs.

In an interview with the IPL website, Jaiswal said, “It’s incredible and I am enjoying it. Initially, it was tough for me but that’s how cricket is. I guess you have to go through ups and downs and learn. I want to thank all my seniors Virat bhaiya and Rohit bhaiya and especially Sanga sir and Sanju bhai, for the way they have been talking to me. It’s incredible to go through these phases and still enjoy the game”.

Jaiswal’s achievement is exceptional—he is the first player in IPL history to score two centuries before turning 23, highlighting his extraordinary talent and promising future in the league. His outstanding performance not only secured a crucial win for Rajasthan Royals but also put him in contention for the openers’ spot in the T20 World Cup 2024.
