WWE weighing alternative venues for Crown Jewel PPV

With only nine days left, WWE’s upcoming PPV Crown Jewel is in serious jeopardy of being postponed. This comes in the aftermath of the killing of Jamal Khashoggi earlier this month, a 60 year old Saudi national and former Washington Post columnist.

So far, WWE has remained silent on the developments that have transpired in recent weeks but it is believed that alternative venues are being considered and they are frantically looking to shift the event out of Saudi Arabia at such short notice.

However, Vince McMahon & Co. will not risk cancelling Crown Jewel since it will result in a massive financial loss of $12-16 million in operating income. But, WWE is under immense pressure as more than 75% of the fans voted for the event to be called off while veteran superstars like John Cena and Daniel Bryan are apparently refusing to work the show.

A couple of weeks back, WWE was forced to make a change in plans for their visit to the Middle East. The 68,000 seater King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh was replaced as the hosts with the significantly smaller, King Saud University Stadium, which holds a capacity of 25,000 people.

Either way, WWE is now stuck in a predicament. If a new location is not found in the coming days then Crown Jewel could possibly be pushed back or the matches scheduled for next Friday could be moved to Survivor Series in case the tight scheduling does not permit the company to stage the PPV at a later date.
