WWE NXT Takeover: New York- Match Card, Predictions and Preview:

NXT Takeover which is all set to take place on 5th of April in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn will be a perfect way to get the WWE Universe get invested for WrestleMania 35 which is scheduled after two nights of it. NXT Takeovers have always raised the bar in terms of the wrestling spots as well as taking the existing story-lines forward and also creating new ones. Under the watchful eye of Triple H, NXT and its Takeover shows are always the ones to look out for and have met the expectations of the WWE Universe time and time again.

Moreover, Takeover has also delivered exceptional matches which have also been awarded with a 5 star ratings from Dave Meltzer. However, this time around the buzz around the event is way too high as each and every match scheduled for the Takeover has a championship involved and thus increasing the anticipation around it. The show comprises of a pre-show that is scheduled for an hour and the main show is slotted for 3 hours. Without a doubt Takeover is the even that everyone will be looking forward to to kick-start a perfect WrestleMania weekend. Let’s have a look at the card for the event along with our predictions for it.

1) WWE UK Championship: Pete Dunne(c) vs Walter

Pete Dunne who is holding the WWE UK Championship for almost a couple years now is all set to go one on one with Walter for the title. Walter has been a really interesting prospect for the company with his hard hitting style of wrestling and surely is a treat to watch. Could this finally be the time for Dunne to let go off his title? It seems to be the likely way going forward.

The match itself is touted to be a strong contender to be crowed as the match of the night and there is not even an iota of doubt that the two highly talented wrestlers will steal the show. With Dunne having already having made a huge impact with the championship, this is the time for a new champion taking the legacy of the UK title forward. And who better than Walter for Dunne to pass on the baton to and leading the NXT UK division.

Winner: Walter

2) NXT Tag Team Championship: War Raiders (c) vs. Aleister Black & Ricochet:

Black and Ricochet have already shown on the main roster on what they are capable of. The odds for this match remain very interesting as Black and Ricochet have already earned themselves a shot at the Smackdown Tag Team Titles a couple of nights later at WrestleMania. So, the scenario is a little complicated to decode whether the duo will still linger around in the NXT or make the jump on the main roster permanently. Talking about the War Raiders, they cannot boast of a memorable reign. This seems to be an opportunity where the WWE creative build some credibility for the Raiders.

With Black and Ricochet’s likely destination moving forward seems to be the main roster, putting the War Raiders over seems to be beneficial for both the teams involved in it. As post the Take Over the War Raiders can rule the Tag Team Divisions and Back along with Ricochet can move towards the main roster and make an impact over there.

Winner: War Raiders

3) NXT North American Championship: Velveteen Dream(c) vs Matt Riddle

Velveteen Dream and Matt Riddle will go head to head at Takeover: New York. This will be for Dream’s NXT North American Championship. This will be the greatest match of Riddle’s NXT career up until now. Desires and expectations are high and I am speculating that he will deliver. I could without much of a stretch see this winding up as the best match of the night dependent on the ability of both folks.

With respect to the championship, I see Dream holding on to the title for the near future. This however doesn’t mean that he will pin Riddle cleanly as the creative will definitely try to protect him . This will set up a rematch between them at the following Takeover. I believe this is a feud that will traverse two Takeover ,so a suspicious completion to the match would sound good to me here leaving a cliffhanger for the subsequent NXT Taping.

Winner: Velveteen Dream

4) NXT Women’s Championship: Shayna Blaszler vs Kairi Sane vs Lo Shirai vs Bianca Belair:

Fatal Four Way Championship matches always have a sense of curiosity looming over it because of the uncertainty of the outcome attached to it. Considering the wrestling capabilities of the four women involved in this one, it is assumable that the match is going to be a high octane one and with the athleticism of Belair for instance a lot of big spots are pretty much guaranteed. Shirai and Sane seemingly are taking their alliance forward in the form of a tag team, the ones left in contention are Baszler and Belair.

With Belair already having unsuccessfully challenged for the championship in recent past, this seems to be the ideal time for Belair to dethrone Blaszler. Being a cocky heel, Belair can steal a sneaky win as in a fatal four way match she does not even need to pin the champion, will further cement her as one of the top heels on the NXT brand.

Winner: Bianca Belair

5) NXT Championship: Johnny Gargano vs Adam Cole

Tommaso Ciampa who was the reigning NXT champion suffered a neck injury and as a result there could not have been the final nail in the coffin for his feud with Gargano for the NXT Championship. As a result Cole had to fill up for Ciampa. Being the heel that Cole is , one should not rule out the Undisputed Era getting involved in the match. There is also an outside chance of the Undisputed Era getting a surprise call on to the main roster post the WrestleMania, however, nothing is confirmed regarding their main roster debut.

This is the match which has all the build up and the possibility to earn a status of classic and could be the match that can earn the Five stars rating. With the Gargano and Ciampa fued still not having a proper closure, Cole can be the perfect transitional champion till the time Ciampa is back to resume the unfinished rivalry. This win will help cement Cole and the Undisputed Era as the top heel faction of the NXT brand. With all said and done, considering the history and the chemistry that Cole and Gargano have shared in the independent scene, this match surely has all the potential to deliver and in the process exceed the expectations of the fans and end the Takeover on a high note.

Winner: Adam Cole
