The star shuttling pair of Manika Batra and Gnanasekaran Sathiyan have earned their berths into the mixed doubles semifinals of the ongoing WTT Contender tournament in Tunis, courtesy of a dominating win over Cedric Meissner and Yuan Wan in the quarterfinals on Friday.
Batra-Sathiyan dominated their German opponents to a 3-0 straight set victory (11-8, 11-3, 11-8) within 21 minutes. Their semifinal outing will be against Shin Yubin and Lim Jonghoon of Korea.
The two had earlier suffered exits in their respective singles campaigns in the first round. Harmeet Desai also bowed out from the men’s singles pre-quarterfinals following a 0-3 (5-11, 6-11, 5-11) loss to China’s Liang Yanning. Achanta Sarath Kamal had also suffered a defeat in the first round.
The women’s singles category also saw the exits of all Indian players, with Ayhika Mukherjee losing out to Japanese shuttler Miyu Nagasaki 0-3 (5-11, 9-11, 10-12) in the Round of 16. Sreeja Akula, and Diya Chitale also suffered first round exits.
