WTT Contender Tunis: Ayhika-Sutirtha Clinch Women’s Doubles Title


The Indian pair of Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee have clinched the Women’s doubles title at the WTT contender tournament in Tunis, defeating their Japanese opponents Miyuu Kihara and Miwa Harimoto on Sunday.

The Indian duo clinched their maiden WTT title courtesy of an 11-5, 11-6, 5-11, 13-11 win over Kihara and Harimoto, who are ranked within the top 25 singles in world rankings, within an hour and thirty minutes.

Earlier, Ayhika and Sutirtha had overcome the tough challenge from the first seeded South Koraen pair of Shin Yubin and Jeon Jihee in the semifinals to earn their berth for the summit clash.

On the other hand, the mixed doubles pair of Manika Batra and Gnanasekaran Sathiyan, and also Manush Shah and Manav Thakkar in the men’s doubles, lost their respective semifinal outings.
