Wriddhiman Saha was included in the 20-man squad that BCCI had announced for the World Test Championship Final against New Zealand followed by the 5-Test series against England but was subject to fitness clearance. He is set to join the squad who will quarantine in Mumbai before leaving for England.

He is one of the two wicket-keepers who has been chosen in the squad for the tour. Rishabh Pant is likely to be the first-choice wicket-keeper. India players and support staff have been allowed to travel with their families to the UK where they will be spending 3 months.

As per the reports, Saha reached his home in Kolkata after completing over a fortnight-long quarantine at a Delhi hotel. A source close to the player told PTI that: “Wriddhiman is back home yesterday after two and half weeks of hotel quarantine in Delhi.” 

The Sunrisers Hyderabad was among the players who had tested COVID-19 positive in the Indian Premier League which has now been suspended. He had opened up about his health and confirmed that he had tested positive in one of the two mandatory RT-PCR tests during his quarantine period.

In a social media post, he had said: “My quarantine period is still not over. As a part of the routine check up, 2 tests were done, out of which 1 was negative and the other one came as positive. Otherwise, I am doing much better. Requesting everyone not to spread misleading stories/information without the whole context.”

The 36-year-old will have to provided another negative RT-PCR test before joining the pre-departure bio-bubble in Mumbai, where the squad will undergo hard quarantine before leaving for England.

Virat Kohli-led Team India are set to face New Zealand in the World Test Championship final from June 18 in Southampton. It will be followed by the five-Test series against England which is to be held in August.
