India’s top wrestler Bajrang Punia, who has won gold in both the Asian and Commonwealth Games was nominated for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, the country’s highest sporting honor, on Friday.
“I had the achievements to deserve this award. I have always said that awards should go to the most deserving ones,” Bajrang told PTI from Georgia.
Bajrang’s medal tally includes gold medals in both the Asian as well as the Commonwealth Games. He won the gold medal in the 65-kg freestyle event in Jakarta while also winning in the same category at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
Bajrang also happens to be a two-time medallist at the world championships and is hoping to have a strong outing in the next year’s Tokyo Olympics.
