Although Coronavirus has stopped most sporting, cultural and overall any major event from continuing all across the world, in the world of Pro-wrestling (or Sports Entertainment), the show never stops. Wrestlemania 36 went on under such undesirable circumstances, and it was a unique event, without the stadium, audience and the overall majestic nature of set decoration. Without the adrenaline rush of 80,000 people cheering or booing a wrestler was missing, so it was interesting to see how WWE will evolve at this stage, especially in a two-day event.
Day 1 of Wrestlemania 36 started with a promo from Stephanie McMahon who acknowledged current situations and promised a different Wrestlemania. However, before the promo, there was the first match where Drew Gulak faced Cesaro in a technically strong bout where Cesaro used a long-forgotten finisher for the victory.
The Women’s Tag Titles were defended as the Champions Kabuki Warriors faced and lost to the team of Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross, who became the new champions.
King Corbin faced Elias in a match, originally put together by Mania Host Rob Gronkowski. In a largely slow, plodding match, Elias rolled Corbin up with a handful of tights for the victory.
The Raw Women’s Championship match was brutal, and Champion Becky Lynch could only retain her title against Shayna Baszler with extreme use of ring psychology. On the other hand, the Intercontinental Title match between Sami Zayn and Daniel Bryan was full of theatrics. Zayn finally won after a lot of distractions, hitting a flying Bryan with the Helluva Kick!
The Tag Team Titles were defended in a unique singles ladder match, where champion John Morrison somehow retained the title against Jimmy Uso and Kofi Kingston.
Seth Rollins VS Kevin Owens was another vengeful affair, which had a false DQ finish before Owens hit the Stunner for the victory.
In a short, but topsy-turvy match, last-minute replacement Braun Strowman defeated Goldberg to win the Universal championship.
The main event, a Boneyard match between The Undertaker and AJ Styles, was a surprising piece of Cinematic wrestling, which was applauded by wrestlers and critics alike. The Undertaker literally buried AJ Styles for the victory. Interestingly, this was Styles’ first main event of Wrestlemania.
Night 2 of Wrestlemania Began with an absolutely great NXT Women’s Title match between Charlotte Flair and champion Rhea Ripley. Charlotte went to defeat Ripley by submission. In the second match, Aleister Black defeated Lashley with the Black Mass.
The story between Otis, Mandy Rose and Dolph Ziggler came to a climax, as Otis won the match against Ziggler with a little help by Mandy Rose, whom he lifted up and kissed after the match in a Wrestlemania special feel-good moment.
The last man standing match between the returning Edge and Randy Orton was brutal, and went all over the set. Edge was the victor after 36 minutes and 40 seconds.
The Street Profits retained the Raw Tag Titles in a match against Angel Garza and Austin Theory. In an Elimination Match for the Smackdown Women’s Title, Bayley managed to retain his title as well!
An absolutely unique match between John Cena and Bray Wyatt ended when Wyatt planted the Mandible Claw for the victory. Finally, in the main event, Drew McIntyre overcame Brock Lesnar with a barrage of Claymore Kicks to become the WWE Universal Champion.
