England pacer Jofra Archer emerged as the nation’s hitman with his early strikes in the tournament. The speedster has now revealed that he had to battle pain apart from the pressure especially during the final.
Archer, who took 20 wickets in England’s successful World Cup campaign, revealed to BBC Sussex that the side strain that he suffered during the clash against Afghanistan. He proceeded to reveal the trouble that it caused him during the course of the competition. He said:
“It was pretty excruciating. It was pretty bad. I couldn’t do it without painkillers, which was from the Afghanistan game onwards,”
“I could not get a week’s rest in during the tournament because of how close the games were. I only ever needed a week to 10 days,”
Despite the setback, the pacer went on to appear for all of the matches. His potency with the ball has now earned him a maiden call-up to the Test squad for the Ashes which is set to commence from August 1. He expressed his desire to show the world what he can do with the red ball, He stated:
“I’m just ready to go out there and show the guys what I can do with a red ball,” he said. “I think my red-ball record is better than my white-ball record, so I just can’t wait to get the opportunity.”
