World Wrestling Championship: Vinesh Phogat keeps medal hopes alive by reaching repechage

Defending champion Mayu Mukaida of Japan showcased her brilliance as she ousted Vinesh Phogat out of the title race in the 53kg category at the World Wrestling Championship on Tuesday.

Mukaida, who later happened to reach the final helped Vinesh stay in the medal hunt as well as Tokyo Olympics qualification.

In case Vinesh dreams of winning her first medal in the Worlds, she has an uphill task in front of her.

She will have to beat three wrestlers in the repechage- Yuliia Khavaldzhy Blahinya from Ukraine, world number one Sarah Ann Hildebrandt and then Maria Prevolaraki from Greece.

She also requires two more wins to secure her place in next year’s Tokyo Olympics.
