Indian boxing ace Lovlina Borgohain has made a winning start to her campaign at the World Women’s Boxing Championships after winning her 75 kg bout against Citlalli Ortiz of Mexico at the K.D. Jadhav Hall in New Delhi on Monday.

The Olympic bronze medallist overcame her rustiness to secure a unanimous decision win over Ortiz, who is a 2017 World youth title winner.

Despite her offensive charges, Ortiz was kept at bay by Lovlina, using her height advantage over her shorter opponent, and utilizing left jabs at the same time avoiding the strikes from the Mexican gave her the lead on the scorecards.

“I could not apply my plans well, I am not happy. I wanted to box a little forward but she was rushing in,” Lovlina, who’s next challenge is against top-seeded Worlds bronze winner Rady Gramane from Mozambique, said after her victory.
